Test & Exercise Program

DEMOC initiated an aggressive five-year Emergency Preparedness Test, Training & Exercise Program (TTEP) plan in June 2008. The program is designed to meet internationally recognized best practices for exercise design and facilitation and is intended to meet the guidelines of the Department of Homeland Security’s Homeland Security Emergency Exercise Program (HSEEP). Each exercise scenario, type and level of complexity is carefully considered in an effort to facilitate a cyclical corrective action and improvement planning process which is cost effective and informs future institutional risk reduction and mitigation strategies.

In November 2009, DEMOC was recognized by its emergency management and international civil defense peers with the prestigious 2009 International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) Business & Industry Preparedness Award. The award recognizes Georgetown’s Emergency Preparedness Exercise Program as a benchmark emergency preparedness program that plans for multiple hazards, sets implementation priorities, is cost effective, links all levels of the organization, and coordinates with local emergency response and management agencies. The program must be repeatable by similar organizations in business and industry.
